The John Muir Award is an environmental award scheme focused on wild places. It encourages awareness and responsibility for the natural environment in a spirit of fun, adventure and exploration. The Award is open to all and has four challenges are at the heart of it: discover, explore, conserve and share.
There are 3 levels of the Award encouraging a progressive involvement. The same 4 challenges above are repeated for each level with increased involvement in time, activity and ownership.
The Discovery Award, for example, is a four day programme. WinG use many of the outdoor activities to deliver the Discover element of the Award. Forest School and bush craft activities are utilised to deliver the ‘explore and conserve’ elements of the Award and ensure participants are thoroughly immersed in the outdoors. All that’s left is for the group to share their experiences and the Award is complete.
This programme has proved very successful with groups in developing elements of teamwork and personal responsibility and can be tailored to meet your needs.
